Knights Banneret, sometimes known simply as Bannerets, is a knight who leads a company of troops during time of war under his own square-shaped banner (in contrast to the tapering standard or the pennon flown by the lower-ranking knights) and is eligible to bear supporters on his heraldry.

The lowest rank of lord knight, Banneret holds several manors and estates. He must have at least three vassal knights of his own holding land from him, but typically has eight to twelve. He also has a hall much nicer than that of a vassal knight, but usually not a fortified estate or castle

Because he has enfeoffed other knights, the Banneret’s responsibility as a leader (both in peace and war) is greater than that of a vassal knight. When summoned to battle, the Banneret must bring his knights as well.
